CSR: TRACING OUR ROOTS

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A total of 150 Lambago seedlings were planted during Italpinas Development Corporation’s October Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in partnership with the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO), along with Damiani Property Management & Services Inc. (DPMSI), at Barangay Pagalungan, Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City.

“The site where we conducted the tree planting activity is adjacent to the new city dumpsite. I consider this a breakthrough for me to be part of our company’s CSR by aligning the green concept of helping rebuild the environment, and I am proud of it,” says Ramelo Toledo, IDC’s Finance & Admin Manager.

Long before civilization thrived, ancient settlers used to name a place in accordance to a specific plant or tree that abundantly thrives in the area. This is why Cagayan de Oro’s former name used to be Kalambaguhan, as several trees of Lambago used to flourish by the riverbanks of Cagayan River, also formerly known as Kalambaguhan River.

Lambago tree, also known as Sea Hibiscus or Sea Rosemallow, commonly thrives in low altitude areas, especially by the riverbanks. Its roots are also unique as they can prevent soil erosion during floods. But its bark fiber and wood are commonly used for making good quality ropes also for making frames and keels for building boats. Moreover, the tree blossoms bright
yellow flowers, that turn light orange by afternoon and dull pink by evening when they fall, which can be used as ornamental decoration.

“He who plants trees loves others besides himself. Let’s be good stewards of the Earth that we inherited. All of us have to share the Earth’s now debilitated ecosystems and feebly resources, and each of us has a role to play in preserving them. We should always keep in mind our responsibility to safeguard it against further destruction,” says Frances Mae Galves, IDC’s Brand Manager.

IDC has always been a company committed to environmental sustainability through elegant architectural solutions and trademarks of contemporary Italian aesthetic. And as a designer and developer of buildings, IDC makes it a point to always keep in mind lesser ecological footprint as well as being one of the few companies that fully support environmental causes, as reflected in most of the company’s CSRs.
