Hard Surface Planning from the eyes of the Architects

A series of very interesting and innovative floor design solutions were portrayed on Wednesday February 10 2021 during the digital workshop “Hard Surface Planning”, organized by the Infrastructure & Construction Focus Group in the Philippines (ICFG) in partnership with the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP).

The event aimed to present various innovative design solutions and direct practical experiences for hard surface planning, indoor and outdoor floors for residential, commercial, and touristic construction projects.

The event was the very first of a series of these digital workshops and presented an experienced host, Ms. Ice Calderon, a true digital personality and real estate entrepreneur known also for her many past appearances in various real estate and construction-related events. To start the event, the managing director of the Infrastructure & Construction Focus Group illustrated what ICFG is all about and underlined the aim of the group to be the industry reference for news, information, innovation, digital events, business matching, and various market entry opportunities for local and foreign companies.

The United Architects of the Philippines fielded directly their President as their speaker, Architect Renato Heray, who, as a famous landscape architect focused on outdoor design solutions with tiles, gravel, stones as well as other interesting materials. He underlined the importance of design and choice of materials during the process of outdoor planning. Architect Abe Ng Sinco, the President and Owner of the company “Color my World Inc”, discussed their terrazzo flooring production in the Philippines and how he was able to use recycled materials like tiles or marble for their products. In fact, very colorful solutions were shown as potential precast flooring. Architect Ramon Abiera, the previous ED of CIAP and current Chair of UAPs innovation, resilience, and intellectual property committee, focused his presentation on the energy charge of the various flooring solutions from parquet, to tiles, cork flooring, and concrete.

He gave a very interesting background on the composition of the materials and their very own elements, useful information for the planning with these materials. As the only foreign speaker the event featured Architect Romolo Nati, Chairman and CEO of Italpinas Development Corporation (IDC), a sustainable and green building real estate development company, listed in PSE, who focuses on mixed use developments in secondary cities in the Philippines. He showcased their projects like Primavera Residences and Primavera City in Cagayan de Oro as well as Miramonti Residences in Sto Tomas, Batangas.

Through some videos he was able to explain the original flooring design solutions for these projects and how these enrich the quality and value of these real estate developments. As a fierce green building advocate he insisted that using passive green design features and sustainable energy sources like solar panels for example the projects don’t necessarily increase in cost but instead provide considerable savings for the benefit of the environment and the building owners.

The event was sponsored by East Gate Philippines, a tile importer and distributor who provides the latest innovations in floor and wall tiles with great monetary savings directly from the manufacturers worldwide. As another event partner we saw Planradar, a cloud-based construction management application for planners and operators to save time and money during the planning and construction process.

For those who missed it the event can be watched on the Infrastructure & Construction Focus Group’s facebook page or on their construction related youtube channel “Design Build Construct by infraph”.
